Welcome to Bergen City Museum

- explore the treasures of Bergen

Hidden treasure...

The Bergen City Museum is responsible for a number of Bergen’s acclaimed tourist sights and important cultural monuments. We manage and present a large part of the city's cultural heritage - dating from ancient times right up to the modern day. Our many historic buildings range from the grand to the modest, and from the luxurious to the humble. Discover the contrast between the royal residence and the leprosy hospital, or explore our fascinating historic gardens and parks. Learn of school children from across the centuries, the high-living aristocracy of the 18th century, the hectic pace of life in a medieval town or about the bakers, dentists, umbrella-makers and rural people of the 19th century. See the everyday battle for survival when town and countryside meet, or visit a preserved industrial community at idyllic Alvøen.

The Bergen City Museum promises that you will come face to face with the Bergen of the past as you explore the city's fascinating, hidden treasures.
